What is a Battery Button Trace ID?

A Battery Button Trace ID is a unique code formed into an internal face of the Battery Button. It stays out of sight while the button is fitted, but remains readable when the button is removed from the battery.

Each code is unique to its Battery Button and can be checked against our order records.

Three simple steps

How to report a found Battery Button

You do not need to identify or contact the owner yourself. Send us what you can see and we will take it from there.

01

Find the ID

Look on the internal face of the Battery Button for the code beginning with Z.

02

Send a photo

Email the code, a clear picture of the button or battery, and where it was found.

03

We contact the owner

We check the order record and privately contact the original purchaser to help arrange its return.

Traceability across models and colours

Battery Buttons are made for different power-tool battery systems and can be printed in many colours. The identifying code follows the same simple format across the range.

  • Unique code on every Z Battery Button
  • Protected on an internal surface
  • Matched against the original order record

Not sure what you found?

How to identify a Battery Button without the Trace ID

If the ID is hard to read, or the Battery Button is still fitted, send us a photo of the complete battery and any visible wording. We may still be able to identify the model and guide you to the code.

  • Photograph the whole battery or loose button
  • Include the location and date it was found
  • Do not post the full Trace ID publicly
